Becoming Catholic

Becoming Catholic

If you are interested in becoming Catholic, or have questions about whether the Roman Catholic faith is the right path for you, we are here to help you discern God’s calling and consider converting to the faith.

Becoming Catholic

The Order of Christian Initiation for Adults (OCIA) may be the Lord leading you to find faith as a Catholic! If this is the case, we would very much like to hear from you. We want to listen to your story, answer any questions, and help you on your faith journey.

Who is the process for?

  • The unbaptized.
  • Baptized but uncatechized. Those individuals who have been baptized as Roman Catholics or as members of another Christian faith, but have not yet received the sacrament of Eucharistic or Confirmation.
  • Those adults who have been baptized and have received their first Eucharistic, but have not yet received full communion of the Catholic church by receiving the sacrament of Confirmation.

The Order of Christian Initiation for Children (OCIC) is for those children who are 8 years or older and have not been baptized.  These children take monthly classes, following the same process as the OCIA, but modified for their age and ability to understand. After they have completed the classes, the OCIC candidates receive their sacraments of Baptism, First Eucharist, and Confirmation at the Easter Vigil Mass.

The OCIA and OCIC classes take place starting in the Fall, with initiation taking place at the Easter Vigil Mass.  Contact Marcy Stone at 414-461-6073 or mstone@stmmp.org if you are interested or have additional questions.
